The Victoria University Postdoctoral Research Fellowship program supports outstanding early career researchers seeking an academic research career. Under this program, the University is now calling for applicants to develop and undertake innovative research project in a number of areas of research.

Fellowship Description: One of these, located within the Centre of Policy Studies, involves "Synthesising the Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) and Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) Approaches to Economy-Wide Modelling". While CGE models are widely used by governments to analyse the economic impacts of a diverse range of public policy issues, the deterministic structure of CGE models can be a limitation in situations where forward-looking behaviour under uncertainty is likely to be important. In macroeconomics, DSGE models are used to study problems characterised by forward looking behaviour under uncertainty. However computational considerations limit the size of DSGE models and restrict their flexibility in accommodating new policy-relevant detail. The development of DSGE models with the levels of sectoral and regional detail found in CGE models would permit analysis of problems involving uncertainty in which both forward-looking behaviour and regional and/or sectoral heterogeneity were important. The aim of the research project is to combine the best of the CGE and DSGE modelling approaches.

Applications/Further Information: Up-to 2 Research Fellowships are available across the University. The remuneration package will be in the range of Academic Levels A to B: AU$76,053 - $102,048 per annum plus 17% superannuation contribution. These are full-time fixed term appointments for 3 or 4 years depending on the programmatic area of research chosen. About CoPS: The Centre of Policy Studies (CoPS) is a leading research centre in computable general equilibrium (CGE) modelling. Comprising approximately 20 staff, the CoPS team has a four decade history of service to governments and businesses. It has built and applied policy-oriented models for Australia and many other countries including the U.S., China, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, and Vietnam. In a typical year, the team undertakes approximately three dozen research projects across about a dozen countries. The GEMPACK software, developed and distributed by CoPS, is actively used at more than 700 sites in 96 countries.
