Full Text of JOE Listing:
As a Country Economist, you will have a direct impact over the Bank's work program in Bolivia as you will:
•Carry out macroeconomic and financial surveillance, and prepare macroeconomic reports, debt sustainability analyses, and financing needs forecasts for the country.
•Conduct and manage analytical studies on issues of importance to the economic and social development of Bolivia and the region.
•Review problems and issues, integrating, analyzing, and interpreting complex and diverse information to develop innovative solutions.
•Carry out economic research in areas connected with the operational agenda of the Bank. Also build and maintain external networks to access and expand country knowledge within the Bank.
•Participate in economic assessment missions and contribute to the policy dialogue with the authorities.
•Participate in the formulation of the Bank's operational strategy in the country. Also contribute to the development of new tools and methodologies with the support of more experienced staff.
•Critically analyze and validate the economic data, assumptions, and design underlying IDB projects and programs, and ensures their efficient and successful coordination, implementation and evaluation.
•Effectively disseminates research findings and provides advice on economic trends and development needs.
•Develops ongoing relationships with government counterparts, internal stakeholders, academia, and relevant third parties to better inform IDB priorities and the formulation of sound economic strategy and approaches.
Specific competencies and areas of expertise:
•Track record of economic research and analysis on macroeconomic issues and other areas of relevance to the development objectives of the IDB.
•Command of statistics, econometrics and economic theory, and the ability to design, conduct, and evaluate economic research.
•Familiarity with the economic and social policy problems in Bolivia.
•Expertise in writing reports on development policy issues and economic situation in both Spanish and English.
•Good command of econometric and quantitative software, (STATA, MATLAB, etc.)
•Familiarity with economic and social data bases.
Qualifications:
--Education Master's degree or equivalent in Economics (Ph.D. desirable).
--Experience A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in research if relevant, research assistance, economic monitoring and economic data analysis.
--Knowledge of policy issues and development problems in Latin American and Caribbean countries required.
--Languages Fluency in Spanish and English, both verbal and written.
