The Urban Institute’s Housing Finance Policy Center (HFPC) is looking for a Research Associate to work collaboratively with center leadership and staff on housing finance research projects. Projects include the research design and methodologies, report writing, communicating ideas and contributing to proposal development and funder outreach to support larger scale research initiatives. The focus of the research is housing and housing finance policy, covering issues such as access to mortgage credit, housing affordability, structure of the secondary mortgage market, and the government role in regulating the housing finance system. The center’s work is focused on the connection between the housing finance system, communities, as well as people and outcomes. This position requires strong quantitative and qualitative skills and excellent organizational, project management, and writing skills. Qualifications: Ph.D. in economics, public policy, business, or real estate and knowledge in domestic policy issues related to housing and mortgage finance.
Strong quantitative background is essential: experience with SAS or STATA is required, as is significant experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Good data visualization skills and attention to detail.
Experience working with various big data sources including common governmental data such as AHS, ACS, HMDA and private data sources is a big plus.
