The Reserve Bank of New Zealand is seeking an experienced economist to join the Modelling team in the Economics Department as an Economic Adviser.

Working within the Modelling team you will be expected to provide thought leadership, make a substantial contribution to the development of policy and the Bank’s analytical frameworks, draft and present material for the Bank’s policy committees, lead projects and provide guidance and coaching to colleagues.

An understanding of central bank policy issues, macro-modelling and experience in open economy macroeconomics is also desirable.

Successful applicants will have:
• A post-graduate degree in economics and at least 5 years’ professional experience
• A solid understanding of macroeconomics and the key issues facing New Zealand and the global economy
• The ability to identify policy relevant issues, shape analytical work accordingly, and influence the views of colleagues and senior managers
• Ability to develop and maintain DSGE models with a small open-economy focus, and ensure their effective use in the monetary policy decision-making process.
• A collaborative approach that draws on the knowledge and skills of colleagues and other stakeholders, and supports the work of others
