The Department of Economics at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in economics, energy economics, or a closely related field at time of appointment (August 2020), with demonstrated research interests in electricity and energy economics; and interests in interdisciplinary research with engineering. This hire will be an integral part of the National Science Foundation EPSCoR award, “The New Mexico SMART Grid Center,” a $24 million project studying electricity distribution.
Preferred qualifications include demonstrated abilities or potential to: publish in peer-reviewed economics or related interdisciplinary journals; generate external research funding; effectively mentor and teach students at all levels; a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, student success, and working with broadly diverse communities.
The department offers Ph.D., M.A., B.A. degrees in economics and has particular strengths in resource and environmental economics. The normal course load is two courses per semester.
