Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) aims to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence. J-PAL’s new Science for Progress Initiative (SfPI) is pleased to invite applications for a 1-2 year postdoctoral fellowship for a candidate working on the economics of innovation, with a focus on how society can most effectively fund and support scientific research. The postdoctoral fellow will operate with substantial intellectual autonomy while working alongside Pierre Azoulay, the faculty supervisor for this position, and with further opportunities for collaboration with researchers leading allied initiatives including SfPI and the Institute for Progress. The position is open to a candidate who has earned a PhD in Economics, Management, Public Policy, or a related field. The candidate should have demonstrated the ability to produce high-quality research papers. We also highly value strong organizational and project management skills.

To Apply: submit a cover letter, CV with a list of publications, academic transcripts, job market paper and contact information for three recommendations to sfpi@povertyactionlab.org. Applicants are required to use the subject line, “Application for SfPI Postdoc.” Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, but it is highly recommended that applicants submit their materials before January 15, 2022, for full consideration.

Offer terms will be competitive and designed to attract candidates considering faculty offers at leading research universities. The successful candidate will be based at MIT and be expected to participate fully in the intellectual life of the university.

J-PAL values diversity, equity, and inclusivity in our work and the broader perspectives our staff bring. We encourage people of color, first-generation college students/graduates, and other underrepresented groups to apply to this role. In your cover letter, please consider sharing how your racial, ethnic, gender, socioeconomic and/or other identity has influenced your drive and desire to work at J-PAL. (This is not required, but rather an opportunity for us to get to know you.)

MIT is an equal employment opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, ancestry, or national or ethnic origin.
