Please read and consider signing this open letter started by the folks at IPUMS regarding a proposal to move to a new, much more stringent standard of data protection that may make most public-use microdata (ACS 1-yr) and even cross-tabulations difficult to use for meaningful social science research. Census personnel have commented to me that if this is implemented, most research using these data products may have to be conducted through RDCs. IPUMS folks have a good working paper and an AEA P&P on this issue. Worth reading and considering.
Thanks!
