Dec 8 -- The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) announces its intent to ask OMB to approve the National Prisoner Statistics program: Coronavirus Pandemic Supplement (NPS-CPan) and invites public comment by February 8, 2021.
 
The NPS-CPan survey will request information on the prison response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) between March 1, 2020 and February 28, 2021, including: Monthly counts of admissions and stock populations in all publicly and privately operated facilities within each state, the total number of persons who received expedited release from prison due to the COVID-19 pandemic and criteria for deciding which prisoners received expedited release, the number of tests performed on prisoners and staff, the number of unique prisoners and staff testing positive for COVID-19, the age, sex, and race distributions of prisoners testing positive for, and dying from COVID-19, the number of prison staff who died from COVID-19, and the use of common mitigation tactics in facilities to identify persons with the disease and prevent its spread.
