Earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Agricultural Economics from North Dakota State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural Economics from Oregon State University. Progressed through the ranks from Assistant Professor, through Associate Professor, and then to Full Professor at the University Florida. Served as Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Sabbatical leaves were done in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of New England in New South Wales, Australia, and in the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University. The main field of inquiry has been in both the quantity and quality aspects of the water resource, including a special emphasis on what drove choices in soil and water conservation in the farming population: That research led to coining the concept of Empathy Conservation. Classroom teaching was mainly in graduate courses while at the University of Florida, including teaching an advanced mathematical production economics course, and courses in natural resource economics. A distance education course in ecological (sustainability) economics was also offered for over a decade while at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, including offering it through the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University.
