The University Research Center (URC) conducts applied research on a variety of state and local issues including revenue estimation, economic impact analysis, socio-economic policy analysis, tax analysis, and population and economic forecasting for the State of Mississippi. Clients include both public and private entities. URC routinely works closely with both the Legislative and Executive branches of state government.
The URC has an opening for a Senior Economist. Applicants should have excellent writing and speaking skills with an ability to communicate to non-economists. Applicants should possess an understanding of modeling and forecasting regional economies. Experience with Eviews is preferred.
The senior economist is responsible for developing and maintaining the State's Econometric Model and presenting the results of that model through publications and speaking engagements before community leaders, government officials and the media. The economist is also expected to conduct applied economic research in a field relevant to Mississippi. A Ph.D. in economics is preferred. A Master's degree with extensive experience will also be considered.
