The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has economist positions available in the Division of Insurance and Research (DIR) and the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection (DCP). Economists conduct research on issues related to deposit insurance, banking, finance, risk measurement and consumer finance. FDIC economists disseminate their research findings in academic, industry and FDIC journals and publications. FDIC economists develop, review, and maintain quantitative models that support agency functions including measuring financial risks such as credit, interest rate, or market, operational and systemic risks; pricing deposit insurance; determining the least cost option for resolving failed banks; and assessing fair lending and other consumer-compliance risks and access to credit. FDIC economists are also involved in research related to the FDIC mission and the financial system more generally. FDIC economists support the supervisory process by reviewing risk quantification and other statistical based models used by insured financial institutions as well by undertaking analyses of current trends and business practices in the banking industry. FDIC economists also monitor economic conditions and identify emerging risks in national and regional economies including providing support for the Financial Stability Oversight Council. The FDIC supports the Center for Financial Research (CFR) which organizes conferences, sponsors visiting scholars, funds academic studies, and undertakes other activities that support the agency's research mission (visit www.fdic.gov/bank/analytical/cfr/ for more information). The FDIC hosts a regular seminar series and staff economists have access to a wide range of data. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
