Full Text of JOE Listing: |
The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at the Indianapolis campus seeks an exceptional candidate to fill a new position of Associate Dean for Graduate and Executive Education. The Associate Dean will oversee the MPA program, the MS in Criminal Justice, and credit and noncredit Executive Education programs. A record of excellent teaching is required, and experience with NASPAA accreditation (or other academic accreditation) and/or practitioner training is preferred. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and management skills are required, and a candidate must be able to thrive in an interdisciplinary and inclusive environment.
A Ph.D. in Public Affairs, Public Management or a related social science field is required. It is expected that the position will be filled at a tenured faculty level, but non-tenure-track appointments may be considered. For candidates seeking a tenured position, an outstanding research record and scholarly reputation necessary for a tenured appointment at either the Associate Professor or Professor level is required. The candidate is also expected to teach at the graduate or undergraduate levels, but the teaching load will be reduced due to the administrative responsibilities.
SPEA is a multi-disciplinary professional school of Indiana University, committed to excellence in research, teaching, and civic engagement. The Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses make up one core school. Among public affairs programs, SPEA programs are ranked highly by U.S. News and World Report. SPEA IUPUI has 650 undergraduates in criminal justice, public affairs, and sustainability majors as well as 370 graduate students in the NASPAA accredited MPA, Masters in Criminal Justice, and graduate certificate programs. Executive education has sixty students in MPA programs, and it offers noncredit leadership and management training to a wide variety of government and nonprofit clients. This position is part of a major investment in research-intensive faculty at the SPEA Indianapolis campus, which has hired ten tenure track faculty members in the past two academic years, with future growth expected.
IUPUI is a research-intensive institution, with over $300 million annually in external grants and contracts. SPEA- IUPUI maintains excellent relationships with state and local government agencies and departments. We encourage collaborative policy work with Indiana University's Public Policy Institute (PPI), which is housed on the Indianapolis campus. With over 30,000 students, IUPUI is the third largest campus in the state and confers more professional degrees than any other campus in Indiana. IUPUI is located in thriving downtown Indianapolis within walking distance of the state office complex, many world-class museums and sports facilities for four professional teams.
