AARP's Public Policy Institute (PPI) informs and stimulates public debate on the most critical issues we face as we age. PPI conducts policy research and analysis, and convenes leading policy experts for discussion of key national and state policy issues. The Public Policy Institute develops policies designed to have a significant impact on improving economic security, health care and quality of life.

In this role you will access a variety of data sources and use appropriate research methods to prepare data, analyze policy issues and develop solutions. You will also monitor legislative, regulatory, and public policy trends in assigned areas of expertise; provide research and technical assistance to staff within the Public Policy Institute and throughout AARP, our State Offices, and others in support of AARP’s Strategic Plan and related advocacy efforts. Additionally, you will write literature reviews and other papers and make presentations to internal and external audiences.

Requires completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Econometrics, other Social Science, or a related discipline, and experience in policy development and research; Master’s degree strongly preferred. Skills in quantitative analysis (such as statistics or econometrics). Experience with manipulating, analyzing and presenting data using SAS, SPSS, GIS, Excel or other statistical packages strongly preferred. Familiarity with public datasets such as: Current Population Survey (CPS); Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF); Survey of Income & Program Participation (SIPP); Health & Retirement Study (HRS); and Panel Survey of Income Dynamics (PSID). Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as knowledge of social media tools such as Twitter and blogging.
