The Economics, Finance and Legal Studies department at The University of Alabama invites applications for an anticipated opening for a tenure-track assistant professor of economics beginning August 16, 2016.

Applications are invited from candidates who will have completed, or firmly expect to receive their Ph.D. by August 16, 2016. Primary duties include teaching economics at the graduate and undergraduate levels, engaging in a research program that results in articles in outstanding scholarly publications, and performing service as assigned by the Department, College, and University. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following fields: labor economics, gender and minority economics, immigration economics, and the economics of entrepreneurship. We also prefer candidates with considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Salary competitive and commensurate with experience and achievements. Candidates with experience must have a record of publishing in high-quality journals and demonstrated teaching effectiveness.

The economics program offers degrees at the undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. levels. Our Masters programs include a full-time MBA, STEM-pathway to the MBA, weekend executive MBA program, and one-year MA in Economics and MS in Finance. The department offers an excellent research environment including generous travel support, active seminar series, and Ph.D. graduate research assistants. In recent years the department’s faculty have published in many of the top economics journals including AER, Econometrica, Journal of Econometrics, JBES, JME, JMCB, and the Journal of Law and Economics, along with top finance journals including JF, JFE, RFS and JFQA. The College has state-of-the art facilities for teaching and research including multimedia classrooms and an excellent collection of databases.
