The Independent Budget Office, a nonpartisan city agency, seek an experienced economist with a keen interest in public policy. The position's focus is New York City's real property tax. Candidates with a background in public finance, tax policy analysis, and an understanding of the New York City economy and real estate markets are strongly preferred. Ongoing responsibilities include quantitative research on economics and public finance, forecasting the city’s property tax, and evaluating property tax policy issues.

A Ph.D. in economics, public policy, or related fields or a master’s degree with substantive equivalent work experience is preferred. Experience in an applied research organization and writing for a policy-oriented audience a plus.

Candidates should be detail-oriented and able to demonstrate skills in quantitative research and policy analysis. Commitment to impartial and independent research is essential. Must be comfortable working in a collaborative environment, juggling multiple tasks, and interacting with a variety of stakeholders on relevant city issues. Ability to take initiative and meet deadlines is critical.

NYC residency is required for candidates with less than two years of city service. Foreign nationals must have a valid permanent resident card ("green card") or renewable work permit.
