The department of Economics at Iowa State University seeks to hire a faculty member at the rank of associate or full professor. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an innovative research program in one or more of the following fields: industrial organization, public finance, public economics, financial economics, labor economics, rural development, or entrepreneurship.
Candidates are expected to contribute to the mission of the program for the Study of Midwest Economies. This program will broadly address topics related to the economics of thin markets, with emphasis on the U.S. Midwest. Research topics of particular interest include, but are not limited, to (i) dynamics of firm entry and exit in rural markets, (ii) the causes and consequences of the uneven distribution of venture capital and entrepreneurship; (iii) creation, retention and attraction of human capital; (iv) market failures and public policies in rural economies; (v) imperfect competition in thin markets, and/or (vi) technological innovation and market boundaries.
Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate and graduate courses in labor economics, public economics, financial economics, or industrial organization.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or related field. Demonstrated excellence in scholarship that establishes the individual as a significant contributor to the field or profession with potential for national distinction.
Appointment at the rank of Professor also requires demonstrated national distinction in scholarship, as evident in the candidate’s wide recognition and outstanding contributions to the field or profession.
