Full Text of JOE Listing:

At Granular, we’re transforming the $3 trillion agriculture industry. Our typical customer is a multi-generational, large family farm looking for software to help them get more done and make better decisions. We collaborate closely with customers and industry experts to guide our efforts and build our products. We’ve had an exciting three years of building product and growing our customer base (we have customers in over 40 states and help them manage over 1.5 million acres of farmland) and are looking to grow our team to continue our exciting trajectory.

Our team is a group of passionate, committed people who are excited to help transform agriculture.

As a Data Scientist at Granular, you will use a wide range of techniques to develop models and analyses to improve decisions on the farm. Your first project will be to extend our models to better estimate land productivity across the country; to do this you'll deal with both large public data sets (such as geospatial soil, weather, and yield data) and proprietary on-farm data generated from our farm management software.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and own accuracy metrics for our long-term expected yield models
- Evaluate new data sources to incorporate into our models and build processing pipelines for them when needed
- Work closely with product management, engineering and design teams to understand how users will interact with our product and models
- Contribute to a wide range of other projects (including our AcreValue product) as needed

Requirements
- MS or PhD in relevant technical field
- Strong understanding of modern techniques for building models from complex data sets
- Mastery of either Python or R for data analysis and model development
- Self-guided and independent, able to manage project timelines
- Creative problem solving skills
- Excellent writing, communication and collaboration skills
- Experience with spatial data analysis a huge plus
- Familiarity with agriculture / farming practices a plus, but not required

This role is based in San Francisco.
