Applications are invited for a full-time position as Established Professor of Health Economics at NUI Galway. The post is based within the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, PhD supervision and capacity building within the School. On appointment, the successful candidate will take up the Directorship of the Health Economics and Policy Analysis Centre (HEPAC) located in the Institute for Lifecourse & Society (ILAS), providing leadership to a strong, research active group of health economists in the Centre. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and lead new and innovative research programmes in health economics and/or health technology assessment that will serve to enhance NUI Galway’s position at the frontier of health economics research internationally. Applications are welcome from candidates from all areas of health economics. Potential candidates with a background in economic modelling and evaluation are especially encouraged to apply. In addition to pursuing work in their area of expertise, the successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in the Centre for Economic and Social Research on Dementia (CESRD), and with clinical and research leaders in the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences the University. The post holder will be expected to develop and lead a personal research programme in health economics and/or the related field of Health Technology Assessment (HTA).

This is a strategic appointment within NUI Galway. The successful candidate will take the lead in developing new and innovative research programmes in health economics and/or HTA, in collaboration with multidisciplinary stakeholders inside the university, nationally and internationally. She/he will have impressive goals and will be expected to work closely with colleagues in the University to pursue a significant and demanding portfolio of research.

Sitting within the School of Business and Economics, the successful applicant will be expected to have ambition and vision for achieving academic excellence through the development and delivery of undergraduate, post-graduate and PhD modules and programmes, including a plan for financial sustainability. A highly successful Masters in Health Economics already exists in NUI Galway and the University is looking to further develop this programme through the enhanced recruitment of international students, innovative teaching, including technological innovation, and enhanced industry relationships. The University is also interested in developing professional education programmes in health economics and related fields.

The successful applicant will be a health economist with an international reputation and will be responsible for developing a programme of research that adds value to the existing output in health economics at the University. It is, therefore, essential that candidates have experience of leading health economics programmes and teams within a multi-professional, inter-disciplinary research environment to internationally excellent standards, as well as effective leadership skills.

Salary:
Appointments at Established level
€110,060 to €139,501

(This appointment will be made on the Established Professor scale in line with current Government pay policy)
