Bowdoin College's Department of Economics invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in international macroeconomics with a focus on Asian economies, beginning fall 2019. The successful candidate will both be squarely in the field of Open Economy Macroeconomics and be engaged in the study of Asian economies. Hiring for this position is expected to be at the rank of assistant professor or instructor, although there is the possibility of hiring at a more senior level in extraordinary circumstances.

We welcome applications from candidates committed to the instruction and support of a diverse student population and those who will enrich and contribute to the College's ethnic and cultural diversity. We value a community in which students and faculty of all backgrounds are warmly welcomed and encouraged to succeed. In your application materials, we ask that you address how your teaching, scholarship, and/or mentorship may support our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Bowdoin requires a strong commitment to research and a promise of long-term successful scholarly engagement as well as a dedication to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment. The College offers opportunities for professional development, a fully-funded, year-long junior sabbatical leave (after three years of teaching and successful reappointment), and regular, generously funded, post-tenure sabbaticals. The teaching load is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will be expected to teach macroeconomics as well as courses on the economies of Asian countries and their relationships with the global economy. Ph.D. in hand by date of appointment is preferred; advanced ABDs will be considered.

We recognize that recruiting and retaining faculty may involve considerations of spouses and domestic partners. To that end, where possible, the College will attempt to accommodate and respond creatively to the needs of partners and spouses of members of the faculty.

Founded in 1794 on the Maine coast, Bowdoin is one of the oldest and most selective coeducational, residential liberal arts colleges in the country.
