Grab is more than just the leading ride-hailing and mobile payments platform in Southeast Asia. Grab began as a taxi-hailing app in 2012 but our products have since grown immensely to include GrabCar, GrabShare, GrabBike, GrabExpress, GrabFood, GrabShuttle, and more, as well as less strictly transport verticals like GrabFinancial (payments, lending and insurance) and GrabVentures (in-house incubation). We work with governments, drivers, passengers, merchants, and the community to solve critical problems in Southeast Asia. We are focused on pioneering new commuting and payment alternatives for drivers and passengers with an emphasis on convenience, safety, and reliability.

We use economics and data to improve everything from transportation to payments and financial services across a region of more than 620 million people. Our data covers millions of passengers, drivers, and rides per day from more than 65 cities in 8 countries (Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar and Cambodia), including some of the biggest cities in the world -- Jakarta, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, Manila, Singapore, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Surabaya, Bandung, and Yangon.

Get to know the role:

Grab’s Data Science Department works on some of the most challenging and fascinating problems in economics, transport, logistics, and everything in between. We apply our expertise on our huge datasets to push the performance and efficiency of our platform to new heights. We foster a culture where we enjoy raising the bar constantly for ourselves and others, and that strongly supports the freedom to explore and innovate.

You will explore and extract economic insights from massive, granular datasets detailing our products, leveraging this to build, validate, test, and deploy economic or other data science models to predict and influence our platform's efficiency.

-Causal inference

Data science skills:

- Machine learning (including frameworks like scikit-learn)
- Numerical optimisation
- Proficiency in Python, R, and/or Scala
- Experience with Spark
