Manaaki Whenua-Landcare Research is the New Zealand Crown Research Institute for terrestrial ecosystems, and its team of economists and quantitative social scientists undertakes research pertaining to land use, environmental decision making, biodiversity, ecosystem services, economic behaviour, and climate change in New Zealand and the South Pacific. We are the largest group active in environmental/resource economics in New Zealand and among the largest in Australasia.

We seek an experienced senior economist with a strong interest in natural resources, the environment, and public policy. Candidates must have at least 7 years’ post-PhD experience in agro-environmental land-use modelling, in particular partial and computable general equilibrium modelling and a track record of applied research. The role also includes line management responsibilities for leading a small cluster of researchers within the wider team. This additional role, Capability Leader – Economic Modelling and Simulation, will focus on the ongoing development and application of a range of economic models, and the ongoing development of the researchers in the cluster who develop and work with these models.
