The USDA, ARS, Sustainable Agricultural Water Systems Unit in Davis, CA seeks to hire an Agricultural Water Resource Economist. This individual will be a member of an interdisciplinary team of scientists charged with maintaining and enhancing agricultural productivity in the face of diminished water availability. Special focus areas of this unit include managed aquifer recharge and remote sensing of evapotranspiration of vine and tree orchard crops. The hire will provide economic expertise within the water-energy-food nexus by developing irrigation, water conservation, and managed aquifer recharge technologies and strategies that reduce economic risks and increase farm profitability, improve soil quality and productivity, enhance carbon storage in soils, reduce the effects of short-term drought, and sustain groundwater management for irrigated agriculture. He/She will identify problem areas and formulate research strategies in response to stakeholder needs, initiate plans, execute economic research, conduct mathematical modeling, and publish peer reviewed articles. In addition, he/she will organize and analyze large, complex data streams for long-term agricultural research (LTAR) networks.
