Pending budgetary approval, the ABF invites applications to join its Residential Faculty as a Research Professor, beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year.

We seek an early- or mid-career economist with a PhD and/or JD and a demonstrated capacity for innovative research on sociolegal issues. We are strongly committed to diversity in hiring.

The ABF is an independent, scholarly research institute committed to social science research on law, legal institutions, and legal processes. Faculty (a mix of full-time appointments and joint appointments with universities in the Chicago-area) are leading scholars in the fields of law, sociology, psychology, political science, economics, history, and anthropology.

Research Professors work independently and are responsible for identifying appropriate topics for research, seeking external funding when possible, conducting research, and authoring books and articles to be published in scholarly journals. The position is ongoing, subject to periodic performance reviews. We welcome applicants seeking a full-time appointment at ABF or those interested in a joint appointment with another Chicago-area institution.

We offer competitive salary, benefits, and research support. If jointly appointed with law or social science faculties of Chicago-area institutions, we work closely with institutions to coordinate on salary, benefits, and other work arrangements (including potential course relief).
