The Economics Department at Colby College invites applications for three full-time one-year visiting positions for the 2022-23 academic year. Successful candidates must demonstrate their potential for excellence in teaching. Candidates will be expected to teach courses that contribute to our core curriculum and elective offerings. The teaching expectations for each visiting position will be five courses spread across two academic semesters, with the potential to count multiple sections of the same course toward this total load. Contributions to the core curriculum will depend on departmental needs but we anticipate that at least two visitors will teach Principles of Microeconomics. Elective course offerings will depend on the successful applicants’ areas of expertise.
Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college located in Central Maine with high standards for teaching and research. Our students are motivated, intellectually curious, and easily engaged in the classroom and in independent research. Our department enjoys an active research culture including a research seminar series. These visiting positions include a stipend for transitioning to Central Maine and funding for conference travel.
Our review of completed applications will begin on March 11 and continue until the position is filled. We plan to conduct remote interviews via electronic conferencing to determine a set of finalists for this position. To be considered for an interview, your application dossier must include:
(i) a cover letter that describes your motivation for applying to Colby;
(ii) your curriculum vitae;
(iii) evidence of classroom teaching effectiveness, including course evaluations if available;
(iv) a statement of teaching philosophy that demonstrates commitment to the value of diversity and to
inclusive teaching; and
(v) three confidential letters of recommendation, at least one of which must address your potential for
teaching excellence.
All materials must be submitted electronically to: http://apply.interfolio.com/102604.
