The new unit will provide strategic advice to the President and members of the Executive Board on all matters related to the Bundesbank’s work on sustainable finance, climate-related risks and environmental risks. It will steer, coordinate, support and streamline internal work on these issues as well as the Bundesbank’s input to international forums. Building on a cooperative business relationship across our directorates general, the unit will develop the Bundesbank’s sustainability strategy and set clear objectives, establish strategic goals and projects, and monitor and ensure their timely implementation. Furthermore, the team will advise and assist Executive Board member Sabine Mauderer in fulfilling her role as Vice-Chair and future Chair of the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS).
Your role:
You will lead a small team of highly qualified experts and will be in charge of further developing the Bundesbank’s agenda in the fields of sustainability in general and climate change in particular. You will be responsible for mainstreaming climate action in all relevant business areas while establishing close contacts and a cooperative spirit across our institution. You will report directly to the President and Executive Board member Sabine Mauderer.
You and your team will connect and coordinate relevant colleagues and ensure timely information flows to and from external sources as well as within the Bundesbank. Internally, you will identify and advise senior management on relevant policy issues and prepare the meetings of the Green Finance Steering Committee. Externally, you will establish and maintain contacts at relevant institutions such as other central banks and international organisations as well as with policymakers, the wider official sector and the financial, academic and NGO communities. You will also represent the Bundesbank in national and international forums such as the NGFS Steering Committee and Plenary meetings.
Your qualifications, skills and experience:
Accredited master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as economics, political science, natural sciences or law; an academic track record related to climate change and/or sustainability would be a plus
At least ten years of professional experience, ideally gained in either a central bank, ministry, supervisory or regulatory authority, international organisation or the financial sector
At least five years of experience in leading and motivating a team of highly qualified experts to outstanding performance while fostering their individual development
A strong track record in dealing with sustainable finance matters and climate-related financial risks; familiarity with the economics of biodiversity and ensuing financial risks would be a plus
Extensive experience in communicating and working with various (international) stakeholders, participating in international forums, and consensus-building on a broad range of environmental policy and/or financial market topics
Preferably experience in leading international working groups on sustainability issues
Proven strategic vision, intellectual leadership as well as strong organisational and management skills
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and excellent command of English; although knowledge of German is not required, a willingness to learn is expected
What we have to offer:
This is a unique opportunity to work in an international environment and directly with our Executive Board on a topic of crucial importance to future-proofing our economic and financial systems. We value our employees and offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience and performance, a relocation allowance, a wide range of training opportunities, flexible hours and work-from-home options.
