The Department of Health Law, Policy, and Management (HLPM) at the Boston University School of Public Health is excited to announce the recruitment of new faculty members with expertise in the areas of health services research, health policy and health economics. These new faculty positions are open rank with a start date in 2023. Candidates for these positions will be expected to teach and should demonstrate ability or potential to be an outstanding instructor, and will pursue at least part of their work at the affiliated Partner Evidence-based Policy Resource Center (PEPReC) for the Veterans Health Administration.

Candidates for these positions will also be expected to demonstrate the ability or potential to maintain a portfolio of externally funded scholarly research supported by NIH, CDC, and other public and private sources. Candidates will be expected to teach beginning in year 2. Duties will also include advising MPH and/or doctoral students. Candidates must have a doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, MD, or equivalent) in a relevant field and a record of academic excellence.

The Department of Health Law, Policy, and Management is comprised of 62 faculty, who are internationally recognized for their innovation in research, scholarship, and teaching across the broad fields of health and social law and policy, health services, policy and economics, and healthcare management. The Healthy Minds Study, the largest, most comprehensive study of mental health, health behaviors, and health service use on U.S. college campuses, is co-lead by HLPM faculty. HLPM faculty are among the lead investigators of the historic, four-state Healing Communities Study, which is bending the curve on opioid overdose deaths in Massachusetts and beyond. Our healthcare management faculty study cancer screening capacity across health care organizations and hospital operations. The Partnered Evidence-based Policy Resource Center (PEPReC) for the Veterans Health Administration studies access to care for veterans as well as safety-net delivery system budgeting, staffing, and performance measurement issues. PEPReC also coordinates national program evaluations for the Veterans Health Administration under the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act.

In addition to our engagement in the school-wide MPH and DrPH programs, the department has a large and successful PhD program in Health Services and Policy Research.
