**About FutureProof**

FutureProof is a fast-moving, venture-backed insurtech startup that is on a mission to create the first insurer that is truly climate-smart. We are a small team with a big vision.

We believe that the world will only have the incentive to make needed investments in climate adaptation once insurance properly prices climate risk. We have used machine learning in innovative ways to price climate risk from floods and hurricane winds with unprecedented granularity. On the basis of these models, we are building new insurance products that will increase financial and physical resilience to climate change.

**About You**

You want to be a foundational member of the team building our transformative models for insurance pricing and underwriting. You will work directly with our co-founders including our CTO, CEO, Chief Insurance Officer, and others. Your work will be pivotal to shaping FutureProof's product.

You are an experienced data science manager. You demonstrate tenacity, creativity, resilience, and leadership, enabling you to organize and lead projects, overcome challenges, and propose solutions. You are an outstanding communicator.

**Responsibilities**

The Senior Data Science Manager role is a full-time position. You will be responsible for:

* Building and managing a data science team
* Building novel catastrophe models of flood, hurricane wind, and other climate-related perils
* Creatively tackling modeling challenges
* Working with our engineering, insurance, and product teams to build our products
* Contributing to our communications with external stakeholders about our models

**Qualifications**

* 8+ years of experience in data science
* Demonstrated experience managing a team
* Strong knowledge of machine learning and statistics
* Fluency coding in Python and/or R
* Fluency coding in SQL
* Deep experience working with real-world data (e.g. working on data extraction, cleaning, analysis, and presentation)
* Experience working with big data tools (e.g. PySpark, Redshift, etc.)
* A bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. degree in applied math, statistics, computer science, software engineering, systems engineering, economics, operations research, math, physics, or related fields
* Experience with AWS (or similar environments) and code versioning tools (e.g. Git)
* Experience with catastrophe modeling is a strong plus
* Knowledge of econometrics is a plus
