The Independent Budget Office (IBO) is seeking an economist with a keen interest in public policy. IBO provides nonpartisan information on the NYC budget and tax revenues. The economics team conducts fiscal policy research, generates economic and revenue forecasts, and responds to information requests.

Qualifications:
Candidates with tax policy analysis are strongly preferred. A Ph.D. in Economics or related field is preferred. Experience in an applied research organization and writing for a policy-oriented audience a plus.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate skills in quantitative research and policy analysis. Commitment to impartial research is essential. Must be comfortable working collaboratively, juggling multiple tasks, and interacting with a variety of stakeholders. Ability to take initiative and meet deadlines is critical.

New York City residency is required for candidates with less than two years of city service; others may reside in Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk or Westchester Counties. Foreign nationals must have a valid permanent resident card (“green card”) or renewable work permit.
