Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Government Accountability Office, or GAO (www.gao.gov) anticipates openings for economist positions. GAO is a research and oversight agency for the U.S. Congress and contributes non-partisan, fact-based, objective analyses of federal government programs and policy. We seek PhD economists and PhD economics candidates who expect their degree in 2023. Candidates must have strong applied research and interpersonal skills. U.S. citizenship is required.

Since 2011, GAO has received top ranking among mid-size federal agencies for best workplace and support of diversity. GAO seeks a work environment where all employees are valued, treated fairly, and given opportunities to develop to their full potential.

The Center for Economics, housed in GAO’s Applied Research and Methods unit, is a diverse group of 30 PhD economists who provide economic guidance and apply a range of economic and econometric tools to support findings that are published in GAO reports. Economists in the Center have the flexibility to work with all of GAO’s public policy teams across all sectors of the economy and government and, on occasion, lead studies. The Center seeks economists in all fields with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
