Mathematica’s International Research Unit seeks a versatile Researcher to conduct evaluations and research projects focused on policies to mitigate or adapt to climate change and to contribute to efforts to expand Mathematica’s portfolio in the climate change practice area.

We are particularly interested in candidates with research experience in renewable energy; sustainable agriculture; natural resource management; sustainable development; climate finance; and/or water, sanitation, and hygiene. Individuals who excel in this position have a passion for using data and evidence to drive social change, a talent for conceptual and strategic thinking, and an ability to produce high-quality work in a context of compressed timelines and changing circumstances.

Position Requirements:
• Excellent quantitative analytical skills and a strong understanding of econometric methods; geospatial analysis skills are preferred
• Policy research experience in climate or environment, including related topics such as renewable energy; sustainable agriculture; natural resource management; sustainable development; climate finance; and water, sanitation, and hygiene
• Stellar written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to (1) convey complex technical issues to non-expert audiences and (2) present and share research results in a way that resonates with clients, practitioners, and policymakers
• Ability to travel internationally
• Ability to work well in teams
• Fluency in at least one language in addition to English is preferred
• PhD (or Master’s degree with equivalent experience) in economics, environmental economics, agricultural economics, sustainable development, public policy, international development, public health, or a related discipline
• Experience managing or supporting research in low- and middle-income countries is preferred
