NBER’s Gender in the Economy group, supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is offering three dissertation fellowships for doctoral students in economics and allied fields to encourage research on gender issues in the economies of developing and/or developed nations. Topics may include victimization and violence against women, household finance, women’s roles in health and education, gender and the labor market, economic development and female labor force participation, and women- and child-centered policies.
Each fellowship offers a $34,000 stipend for academic year 2023-2024, $3,000 to support research costs of any type, and $13,000 to defray tuition and fees. Fellows will be expected to participate in the Gender in the Economy Meetings at the NBER Summer Institute.
To be eligible for fellowship support, an applicant must be enrolled as a full-time PhD student at a US or Canadian university. Fellows will be selected based on their potential to make an important contribution to the field and given recommendations of our selection panel.
