The Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is seeking to hire a research economist with interests in applied labor and human resource economics, specifically in areas related to economic mobility and the social safety net, workforce-related skills development, and/or the impacts of government tax and transfer programs on low- and moderate-income families. Preference will be given to candidates with an established research record and up to 8 years of post-PhD experience at an academic or policy institution, though new PhDs will also be considered.
Qualified candidates are required to have a PhD in economics or related field and a track record of publications in one or more of the above areas that is commensurate with the length of their career. In addition to conducting independent research that is published in top academic journals, successful candidates will be expected to contribute roughly 20 to 25% of their time to the Bank’s policy mission by participating in the Atlanta Fed’s Advancing Careers initiative and overseeing the management and ongoing development of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Policy Rules Database. Excellent communication skills are required.
The Department maintains an excellent research environment and provides substantial research support. The position requires potential access to confidential supervisory information and/or FOMC information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law. Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. permanent residents who either are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization or who have applied for naturalization within the requisite timeframe. Candidates who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents may be eligible for the information access required for this position and sponsorship for a work visa, and subsequently for permanent residence, if they sign a declaration of intent to become a U.S. citizen and meet other eligibility requirements.
