The Chaudhry Nazar Muhammad Department of Economics at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan's premier academic institution, invites applications for multiple tenure-track and tenured positions at the ranks of assistant professor, associate professor, and full professor beginning August 2023. We seek candidates committed to excellence in teaching and research. Though we will consider candidates in all streams, we are especially interested in candidates specializing in macroeconomics, econometrics, public finance, behavioral economics, and game theory. We strongly encourage female and non-Pakistani candidates to apply.

We expect successful candidates to maintain active research portfolios, contribute to the department’s core courses, and develop elective courses based on their scholarship. Each faculty member carries an annual teaching load of three courses and devotes time to institutional service, student mentoring, and academic advising. LUMS employs English as the medium of instruction. LUMS also provides a generous startup grant and funds for research and conference travel.

Candidates must apply by Dec 20, 2022, to be considered in the first round of applications review. We will shortlist candidates and invite them for online interviews. For us to consider applications, candidates’ dossier must include: 1) a cover letter stating their motivation to apply to LUMS; 2) their curriculum vitae; 3) three letters of recommendation; 4) a sample of their research 5) teaching and research statements; and 6) their teaching evaluations (if available). Candidates applying for the assistant professor position must have completed a PhD by August 1, 2023.

LUMS’s economics department plays a leading role in establishing Pakistan’s economic research frontier and in shaping its public policy. Our faculty has published in top economics journals, including Journal of Political Economy, Journal of the European Economic Association, and Journal of Development Economics.

The department functions as a hub of development research in South Asia and our faculty collaborates internationally with researchers at universities such as Harvard, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Columbia, and LSE (London School of Economics) (London School of Economics). The department carries an excellent local reputation, enabling collaborations with multilateral banks, government departments, nongovernmental organizations, and civil society groups.
