IFC—a member of the World Bank Group—is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets and the world’s largest multilateral source of loan and equity financing, advisory services for private sector in the developing world.

IFC’s Economic Policy Research Department is recruiting a Principal Economist focused on the following areas: trade and supply chains, agriculture and food markets, competitiveness and productivity. The roles and responsibilities of the position will include:
• Develop and grow a strategic knowledge portfolio on one or more themes of trade and supply chains, agriculture and food markets, competitiveness and productivity for low- and middle- income countries. Research focus should be relevant to companies, sectors, national private sector development policies.
• Within the areas above, oversee the production of economic research reports, articles, academic publications based on new analysis and data, providing strategic guidance, oversight, and quality assurance to the team of economists.
• Draw on findings from economic research to inform IFC strategy, Investment and Advisory operations, Upstream engagements, and WBG policy work.
• Develop new global engagements and interface with university economics departments and other partners.
• Supervise the work of the Department’s researchers to ensure quality and consistency.
