Full Text of JOE Listing:

John Donohue seeks an empirical research manager to implement an impact evaluation of the Collaborative Defense Model on the uptake of public benefits and community-based services by clients of the LA County Public Defender’s Office. This research, conducted in collaboration with the national nonprofit organization Partners for Justice, will include both randomized and quasi-experimental components. Expected pay is $71,650/year (plus a competitive benefits package) for two years starting fall 2023.

Responsibilities
• Obtaining informed consent and managing all other aspects of IRB protocol
• Organizing assignment of participants to treatment and control status
• Obtaining/cleaning administrative data
• Analyzing experimental results
• Monitoring and mitigating threats to identification, including non-compliance/attrition
• Building and maintaining relationships with external partners
• Preparing manuscripts
• Managing the budget

Qualifications
• A Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline (economics, political science, sociology, public policy, statistics, applied math) within the last 3 years strongly preferred; those with substantial experience conducting large randomized experiments and an undergraduate or master’s in related fields also considered
• Familiarity with RCT design/implementation
• Track record of productive research
• Strong understanding of causal inference/econometrics
• Programming experience in R, Stata, or Python
• Coursework in the empirical social sciences
