The Department of Financial Planning, Housing, and Consumer Economics at the University of Georgia invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in Consumer Economics and Housing (nine months, academic appointment, tenure track, 50% research, 50% teaching).
Start Date is August 2024 or as negotiated.
Minimum Qualifications:
To be considered for the position of Assistant Professor, the applicant must hold an earned doctorate in consumer economics, consumer behavior, housing studies, community development, policy analysis, or a closely related discipline with computational expertise in Geospatial Analysis, experimental design, and other quantitative methodologies.
Appointment to rank of associate professor will be extended to individuals with at least five years as assistant professor (eligible for promotion to rank of associate professor upon appointment) at a comparable institution and must show clear and convincing evidence of high levels of attainment in teaching and research and commensurate national or international recognition related to developmental science and/or family studies. The successful candidate must show evidence of, or clear potential for, successful teaching at the graduate level and securing external research funding. Responsibilities:
Faculty will be expected to collaborate across campus on research, outreach, and teaching. The candidate is also expected to teach courses, with a focus on Consumer Economics. The candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized research agenda and secure external funding on topics related to consumer economics, consumer education, consumer policy, or consumer decision-making and will ideally include some aspect of housing studies such as mortgage/predatory lending, at-risk consumers, community development, housing counseling, property management, discrimination, aging and the life-course. The hired faculty member will be required to advise undergraduate and graduate students, participate in departmental and collegiate governance and professional organizations, and pursue active membership in relevant professional organizations.
