Wesleyan University’s Department of Economics invites applications for a non-tenure track position of Assistant Professor of the Practice in Economics beginning July 1, 2024. The initial appointment is for three years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and budget capacity. Ph.D. in Economics or related field in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as an Assistant Professor of the Practice; a successful candidate may be hired as an Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but will complete the Ph.D. in Economics or related field within one year of hire.
The Assistant Professor of the Practice will primarily be responsible for 1) developing and teaching half-semester courses in basic probability and statistics and mathematics for economists to prepare students for the calculus-based gateway introductory course and the major’s required introductory econometrics course, and 2) coordinating and overseeing a peer tutoring program within the department. The individual hired in this position may also offer courses in their areas of specialization. This person will work with colleagues to ensure appropriate alignment of the content of these courses with curricular needs, and will be expected to share in academic advising responsibilities. The total course load, including oversight of the peer tutoring program, is equivalent to five full-semester courses per academic year.
