The Central Bank of Chile is looking to fill one or more Senior Economist positions in its Economic and Financial Research Units.

All positions require someone with a strong interest in conducting high-quality research and applying their work to inform policy decisions and provide advice to the Bank's Board. The CBC offers a lively and dynamic environment with many opportunities for career development and constant interaction with academia and policymakers worldwide through seminars, courses, and workshops organized at the Bank. Publishing in top international journals is not only encouraged but also required and incentivized. Financial support to travel and submit papers and time from research assistants is provided.

The specific activities in each unit are:
(1) Economic Research: Carry out empirical or theoretical research in one or more topics such as monetary policy, international economics, labor markets, or financial markets, among others, with the aim of better understanding the trends that arise from the behavior of the Chilean economy, in accordance with the interests and needs of the Central Bank of Chile and its Board. Applicants with strong modelling skills are welcome.
(2) Financial Research: Carry out empirical research in topics such as: banking, real-financial linkages, corporate finance, micro prudential policy, financial markets, international finance, among others. Participate and help define the Empirical Agenda of the Bank, to help improve the analysis and decision-making of the Central Bank of Chile and its Board in topics related to financial stability, banking regulation and the interaction with monetary policy. The position requires conducting research with large administrative databases available at the Bank.
The research areas at the Central Bank employ around 30 Ph.D. economists graduated from U.S. and European universities, as well as Master-level research assistants who collaborate with research projects and macroeconomic analysis.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Economics or an equivalent degree or expect to receive it by September 2024. Experienced Ph.D. economists are also encouraged to apply. The position is open-ended and offers internationally competitive wages and benefits packages.
Applicants with no previous experience should upload 3 letters of reference. This requirement is not mandatory for experienced economists with a proven publication record.
