Full Text of JOE Listing:
In the Climate and Energy Policy Program in Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, we engage directly with external partners in government, industry, and the non-profit sector. We provide high-quality, balanced, and practical policy analysis, academic research, and advocacy to support evidence-based climate and energy policy.
This postdoctoral scholar will apply their skills and expertise to address urgent and intensifying wildfire policy challenges in California and the western United States. This work will build on and deepen partnerships with policy stakeholders and Stanford’s long history of engagement on wildfire policy in both Sacramento and Washington, D.C.
The postdoctoral scholar will lead research and analysis to inform improved wildland fire management policy and performance measurement. Specifically, they will estimate the effects of wildland management interventions on key outcomes (e.g., the likelihood of extreme wildfire events) and develop performance metrics. We seek a candidate with strong data analysis and management skills and a strong background in statistical analysis, economics, and machine learning. Ideally, the applicant will be proficient in causal inference and advanced econometrics, time-series analysis, and geographic information systems (GIS). Possessing a willingness to apply expertise to new policy-relevant questions is more important than having deep, preexisting experience with wildfire policy.
