Full Text of JOE Listing:

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate to join the Knowlton Lab in the Department of Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. Our lab is dedicated to finding novel ways to improve health equity, addressing barriers in access to care, and reducing disparities among vulnerable surgical populations, including underinsured trauma and emergency surgery patients. We are also committed to developing innovative solutions that streamline patient care and ensure high-quality, cost-effective outcomes for both patients and health systems.

This postdoctoral position will focus on NIH-funded research projects investigating the financial, clinical and quality of life outcomes associated with hospitalization for trauma or emergency surgical disease, particularly among underinsured patients. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Knowlton and her team consisting of residents, statisticians, health economists, mixed-methods and qualitative researchers with the Stanford-Surgery Policy Improvement Research & Education Center (S-SPIRE).

Responsibilities will focus on primarily on quantitative research methods and implementation of advanced analytical techniques to large databases, which include claims data and electronic health record data.

Our research group prioritizes a collaborative and inclusive team environment. The principal investigator is an experienced mentor who is highly committed to supporting the postdoctoral scholar in advancing their career as a future independent investigator. The postdoctoral scholar will have opportunities to both lead and contribute to research projects. We regularly collaborate with researchers across disciplines and institutions. In addition to data collection and analysis, they will be responsible for preparing manuscripts, presentations and will have the opportunity to present work at national and international conferences. The candidate may also contribute to the development of new grant applications.
