Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Global Commerce program at Denison University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level beginning in Fall 2025. We are seeking an Economist interested in teaching in an interdisciplinary department at a small liberal arts college. The field of economics is open; however, applicants must demonstrate an ability to teach quantitative methods and global financial markets, a commitment to excellence in liberal arts teaching at the undergraduate level, and a desire to contribute to the development of the Global Commerce program.
Global Commerce is an innovative interdisciplinary major that trains students to think critically and creatively about how global exchanges of goods, services, information, and money shape and are shaped by a wide variety of economic, political, cultural, social, and environmental factors. By integrating curricular and co-curricular experiences, the major enables our students both to understand the dynamics of global commerce and to put this understanding into practice. Individuals who identify with backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in higher education are encouraged to apply.
The teaching load is 5 courses per year, the largest of which is capped at 25 students. The successful candidate will teach Quantitative Methods for Global Commerce, Global Financial Markets, and several other Global Commerce Core Courses. (For details on the Global Commerce curriculum, please see: https://denison.edu/academics/global-commerce.) Denison is a fully residential campus and all classes are held in-person and on-campus. Applicants should provide evidence of teaching effectiveness from college-level courses. The successful candidate will also be expected to mentor interdisciplinary undergraduate research.
Applicants must provide evidence of research promise in economics. Additional work experience in the business or non-profit sectors is strongly desired as a complement to academic expertise. Successful candidates are expected to maintain an ongoing research program that results in peer-reviewed publications as well as contribute to the life of the department, institution, and the larger community.
Qualifications
Candidates must have their PhD in Economics or closely related field in hand by August 2025.
