About SESRI
SESRI, a research center within Qatar University, is Qatar’s premier social science research institute and conducts nationally representative surveys and innovative empirical research that directly feeds into policy. Over the last decade, SESRI’s research has been instrumental in shaping major labor reforms, including providing the evidence base for Qatar’s non-discriminatory minimum wage and living conditions of expatriate workers. Our projects span labor markets, migration, education, social norms and demographic change. SESRI offers access to unique and high-quality survey data, in-house survey capacity (face-to-face, telephonic and web) and opportunities to collaborate with government agencies and international partners.
We invite applications for rolling contract positions at all ranks. The position will begin in August 2026. Candidates must have a PhD in Economics and some post-PhD work experience, preferably in survey research. We welcome candidates whose research aligns with our core strengths in mix-methods survey research with a particular focus on labor economics, economic sociology, survey experiments, and the political economy of the Middle East. The salary is competitive and tax-free in Qatar. Free housing, school allowance (for up to three children) and one annual return flight home is also provided.
Candidates are expected to lead commissioned survey projects, secure research grants, and publish high quality research. There is no teaching requirement associated with these positions. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate the capability for carrying out high-quality independent research. Associate Professors should have a track record of research. Professors are expected to have an outstanding publication record and an interest in participating in service activities and mentoring.
We particularly welcome applicants with prior experience in quantitative or mixed methods field data collection or with substantial work using large-scale secondary survey data or administrative data sets.
We are especially interested in scholars who can demonstrate strong skills in leveraging policy variation as natural experiments, quasi-experimental designs and other rigorous empirical approaches common in applied micro and labor economics. Fluency in Arabic and prior experience working on research topics relevant to the GCC region or comparable contexts will be considered an added advantage.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the vacancies are filled.
