Committee on the Status of LGBTQ+ Individuals in the Economics Profession

The mission of the Committee on the Status of LGBTQ+ Individuals in the Economics Profession (CSQIEP) is to provide support for LGBTQ+ economists and economic research relevant to LGBTQ+ populations. The American Economic Association has supported the LGBTQ Economics Working Group since 2016 by hosting an annual meeting at the AEA/ASSA conference and by supporting the production of an LGBTQ Economics Newsletter. The Ad Hoc Committee was made a full committee in June 2019.

Mentoring Conference: CSQIEP is pleased to announce its Fourth Annual LGBTQ+ Mentoring Conference for Economics PhD students and Early Career Economists in Chicago, IL, on July 6-8, 2026. The goal of this conference is to support LGBTQ+ economics PhD students and early career economists and those who want to support these groups. ASSA Meeting: CSQIEP hosts an in-person business luncheon, a social reception, and two research sessions at the annual ASSA meeting. The call for abstracts for the CSQIEP-sponsored sessions opens March 1st with a deadline of April 15th. One session focuses on LGBTQ+ economics related topics. The second session features work from graduate students and early-career researchers; submissions on any economics topic will be considered. For more information, please visit the ASSA Meeting page.

Research Award: CSQIEP presents an annual Award for Outstanding Research in LGBTQ+ Economics. Nominations of recently published or forthcoming economics research papers with relevance to or about LGBTQ+ populations are welcome. Virtual Seminar Series: CSQIEP hosts a virtual seminar series on the Economics of LGBTQ+ Individuals on select Tuesdays at 12:05 EST. Interested individuals can sign up to join the seminar listserv. For information on upcoming and past presentations, please visit the Virtual Seminar Series page.
