CSMGEP: Amy Ando

Amy W. Ando is Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics at Ohio State University and a University Fellow at Resources for the Future. She earned a B.A. in economics from Williams College and a Ph.D. in economics from MIT. She was a professor at the University of Illinois for 24 years before moving to Ohio State, and she was elected as a Fellow of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE) in 2023. Amy’s research focuses on the economics of species and habitat conservation and ecosystem service valuation, though she has worked on other topics including natural disasters and urban water issues. Some of her research tackles environmental justice issues, including the distributional impacts of farm and open space conservation, environmental justice issues in U.S. voluntary soil carbon sequestration markets, and how the structures of environmental economics as a field can inadvertently uphold inequitable environmental outcomes. Amy has worked with others to advance equity in the profession during terms she served on the Boards of AERE and the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association.
