ASSA 2027 General Information
2027 Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA) Annual Meeting
Washington, DC
January 3–5, 2027 (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday)
Meeting Facilities
ASSA Headquarters Hotel is the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC. ASSA registration and exhibits will be in Exhibit Hall A of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Sessions will be held in the Marriott Marquis Washington DC, Walter E. Washington Convention Center, The Westin DC Downtown, and the Grand Hyatt Washington DC. The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is attached to Marriott Marquis Washington DC on the M2 level. Sessions begin Sunday, January 3, 2027, at 8:00 a.m. and run until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2027.
Individuals unable to attend in-person will be able to view selected AEA live-streamed sessions for free. Livestream sessions are marked in the preliminary program with "This session will be streamed live".
Preliminary Program
The entire preliminary program is on the AEA website, with updates made continuously throughout the fall. Please send any changes to paityn.connolly@vanderbilt.edu. When updating participant information, please include the individual's affiliation and email address. Printed programs are no longer available.
Go Mobile
The ASSA Conference mobile application allows you to build a personal daily schedule, receive reminders and updates, find what you are looking for, take notes, and more. You will receive a username and password when you register for the meetings. This app will be available on-line the first week of December at www.aeaweb.org/conference.
Registration
Registration will open on September 15, 2026. You will receive an email confirmation of payment with your registration ID number and the link to housing. If you do not receive a confirmation, email ASSA@vanderbilt.edu. Check your ASSA conference account prior to registering for name and affiliation accuracy. We recommend you bring your confirmation when picking up your packet at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC. Everyone must register, including speakers, discussants, students, guests, and administrators attending any ASSA session and/or events. Badges are required for admission to sessions, exhibit hall, luncheons, and other activities. Pick up your registration packet in Exhibit Hall A of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
On-Site and Advance Registration Booths will be open as follows:
Saturday, January 2 — 1:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.*
Sunday, January 3 — 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.*
Monday, January 4 — 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.*
Tuesday, January 5 — 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
*The on-site registration line will be closed off fifteen minutes prior to closing each day. You can only register onsite after December 30, 2026.
Refunds
To process refunds for pre-registration, you must forward your cancellation confirmation of your hotel room to assa@vanderbilt.edu. We must receive your refund request by December 1, 2026. Refunds are not issued for any reason if requested after this date. If you register after December 1st or on-site, no refunds are issued.
Photography & Video Disclaimer
By attending the 2027 ASSA Annual meeting, you acknowledge and agree that you may be photographed and/or recorded by the American Economic Association or its partners. These photos, videos, or audio recordings may be used in promotional materials on the organization’s website, or in other communications related to the event.
Housing
The housing site will open on September 15, 2026. Each hotel room requires your ASSA registration ID.
Persons with Disabilities
If you need disability aids or services to fully participate in the meetings, contact the ASSA Registration Office at 615-322-3509 by December 1, 2026. If you need a specially equipped sleeping room, inform the Official Housing Company when making your hotel reservation.
Spouse or Guest
There is no spouse program. Spouses or guests wishing to attend any of the meetings may register by December 1, 2026 for a discounted fee. After December 1, 2026, the registration fee will increase. If your spouse or guest wish to have their affiliation on their badge, they must pay the full fee.
2027 AEA Recent Development Series Lectures
The AEA's Continuing Education Program is now held simultaneously with the ASSA Annual Meeting as part of the regularly scheduled sessions. The continuing education sessions renamed, “AEA Recent Developments Series,” are accessible to all registrants at no additional cost. The AEA’s Recent Developments Series is designed to help economists at all career stages sustain and enhance their expertise. Each session, presented by leading scholars in their fields, is tailored to explore the latest research across different fields of economics.
2027 Job Market
Job market interviews will occur online once again in 2027. We hope that you will continue to take advantage of the JOE Network for your candidate profiles, job listings, and letter writing, as well as the application module that includes a tool for scheduling interviews. The AEA will continue to provide Signaling and the Job Market Scramble. The AEA Committee on the Job Market offers periodic updates on conditions in the job market.
Welcome Reception
Plan to attend the "ASSA Welcome Reception," January 2, 2027, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC in the Liberty Ballroom. If you mark that you will attend the Welcome Reception when you register, you will receive a free drink coupon at the door. There will be heavy hors d'oeuvres available.
Children's Program
KiddieCorp will provide a professional children's program at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC. Register online using the form: https://form.jotform.com/KiddieCorp/assakids. If needing to register and pay via check, please contact assa@vanderbilt.edu. KiddieCorp has been in business since 1986. Team members are trusted, qualified childcare specialists.
Exhibits
Exhibits are in Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Exhibit Hall A. The hours will be:

We have selected Avis as our car rental supplier for the ASSA Meetings. Please refer to the Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) #J945275 and call 1 (800) 331-1600 to make reservations. Attendees should provide Avis reservations agents with this AWD number to ensure they receive the best available car rental rates. Attendees can also book online at Avis.com and enter the discount number to receive the great rates.
Transportation
DC Metro System serves the District of Columbia and surrounding areas. Taxis run regularly throughout downtown. From Reagan National Airport to downtown, taxi fares are approximately $25.00. From Dulles National Airport, taxi fares are approximately $65.00. From Baltimore Washington International Airport, taxi fares are approximately $79.00. Other car rentals are available at Reagan National Airport, Dulles National Airport, and Baltimore Washington International Airport.
