JOE Listing Guidelines

The American Economic Association does not endorse any form of discrimination in hiring economists.

Job listings may encourage or welcome applications from either: (a) identifiable underrepresented groups, or (b) identifiable groups for which the US Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other applicable employment laws permit preferences in hiring.  Listings may not include language that indicates discriminatory preferences in hiring.

Employers who submit listings to JOE Network that welcome or encourage applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, gender, gender identity, national origin or ancestry, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, physical or mental disability, citizenship, military or veteran status, or genetic information must certify or have a certification on file at the American Economic Association specifying that the language in the listing is in compliance with relevant US laws, orders, and regulations concerning equal employment opportunity and affirmative action, and does not indicate discriminatory preferences in hiring.

Certification Form

The Association will not knowingly publish paid or unpaid advertising or notices for products, services, or positions that are made available in a fashion that discriminates on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, gender, gender identity, national origin or ancestry, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, physical or mental disability, citizenship, military or veteran status or genetic information. Job listings that indicate discriminatory preferences in hiring are not permitted even if the employer is eligible to do so by law. International universities that are not subject to US laws and regulations concerning equal opportunity employment are not required to complete the certification form above, as applicable hiring procedures and employment practices may vary from those in the United States.

JOE Network listings are exclusively an online publication available only on the American Economic Association website. (www.aeaweb.org/JOE)
