Big Data Collection and Processing in Analyzing and Forecasting of Economic Developments
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission has recently established the Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) with the mission of investigating new research areas of relevance for European policy. The project on "Big Data collection and processing in analyzing and forecasting of economic developments" is looking to hire research economists to explore innovative ways to measure and forecast economic activity in real time. The first goal of the project is to develop more accurate models to forecast and nowcast indicators of economic activity and their uncertainty. The second goal is to create real-time high frequency indicators that extract information from a wide range of rich datasets on news, consumer expenditure, and transportation among others. Successful candidates will work in a team composed of a lead scientist and 4 researchers and are expected to publish in prominent economic journals. Citizenship of one of the EU Member States or from Associated Countries is a requirement for the positions.
