The Program in Corporate Welfare Studies seeks to hire a Junior Specialist. The position is most suitable for a recent graduate with a B.A. degree in economics. The Economist would conduct some research of his or her own in the area of corporate welfare, assist faculty and Ph.D. students in their research, and would work on making the results of academic research known and comprehensible to a wider audience. He or she would also participate in organizing the summer research program.
The area of research is broadly defined as the causes and consequences of governmental policies that affect particular firms. Examples of related research supported by the Program include how regulations on airline pilot hours affect airline behavior, how the bailouts of banks deemed too large to fail affect different firms, conditions which make corruption especially likely, and how political pressures can affect the behavior of multinational firms.
The initial position will be for one year with the possibility of funding for an additional year. The annual pay is $50,000, plus benefits.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must possess a BA in Economics by the start of the appointment. Background in Industrial Organization, Political Economics, and Econometrics. Knowledge of U.S. political institutions, and U.S. data. Ability to work in a team.
