Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Global Commerce program at Denison University invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor or senior level beginning in Fall 2019. Global Commerce is a new interdisciplinary major (started in 2016) that trains students to think critically and creatively, in the liberal arts tradition, about global processes and structures of exchange by examining how factors including culture, history, politics, financial practices, and social structures shape both for-profit and non-profit activity in different contexts around the globe. Field of specialization for this position is open, but research and teaching experience must be related to international business, international financial institutions, global political economy, institutions of commerce (including non-profits or NGOs), or liberal market economies. Teaching responsibilities will include some combination of the core Global Commerce courses (Commerce and Society; Elements of Commerce; Global Financial Markets; and possibly a future applied statistics course for Global Commerce majors), as well as rotating responsibilities for the senior capstone course. (For details on our Global Commerce curriculum and course descriptions, please see: https://denison.edu/academics/global-commerce.) The successful candidate will also have regular opportunities to teach topical seminars investigating the structures, strategies, cultures, and contexts of global business and non-profit organizations and must be prepared to mentor undergraduate scholarship and research. The teaching load is 5 courses per year, including both introductory and upper-level courses, the largest of which is capped at 28 students.

Additional work experience in the business or non-profit sectors, as well as a willingness to help foster connections between our Global Commerce program and outside practitioners, are preferred.

We will begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2018, and will continue until the position is filled. We will conduct Skype interviews with prospective candidates in November 2018. We will consider both ABD and Ph.D.-in-hand candidates, but degree must be conferred within a year of appointment at Denison in order for contract to be renewed.
