The SC Johnson College of Business at Cornell University invites applications for the E.V. Baker Professor of Agricultural Economics in the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, with a start date of July 1, 2019.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to establish a distinguished program of research and extension in agribusiness. Initial responsibilities will be 50% research and 50% extension but teaching responsibilities are negotiable for senior candidates.

The research should select among the myriad of issues facing New York agricultural markets and the U.S. dairy industry in particular. These issues might include farm policy, product marketing, financial management, labor management, environmental issues, production decisions, commodity marketing, and risk management. The candidate will work closely with stakeholders in the New York dairy industry to develop an extension program. Advising of graduate students is expected as is the capability to publish in leading scholarly journals in applied economics or management related fields.

Opportunities: The Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management is a shared School between the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the SC Johnson College of Business. The Dyson School houses a top-ranked undergraduate business program as well as graduate programs that award Ph.D., M.S. and M.P.S. degrees in applied economics. Areas of faculty expertise include; food and agricultural economics; environmental, energy and resource economics; international and development economics, finance, marketing, strategy, entrepreneurship and management. Interdisciplinary collaboration is embraced by faculty members, encouraged by the School and supported by various programs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and elsewhere on campus such as the Institute for Social Sciences and the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future. Faculty members in the Dyson School frequently collaborate with colleagues in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Computer and Information Sciences, Economics, Engineering, Natural Resources, the New York City Tech campus, and other units on campus.

The SC Johnson College of Business is also home to the Business of Food which is a unique collaboration across Schools in the College of Business and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The Business of Food brings together leading researchers, teachers, and industry professionals to be the thought leaders who shape how business education works to sustainably feed the world through interdisciplinary collaborations that lead policy discussions, create cutting edge research, and influence business-based decision making.

The SC Johnson College of Business includes 3,200 students, over 200 faculty, over 500 staff, and 36,000 alumni. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences encompasses a similar number of students and faculty, with emphases on agricultural and life sciences.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in agricultural economics, economics, or management is required.
